In February 1890, Alexander Herring and his wife, Emma, purchased 298 acres of land adjacent to this cemetery from Charles Metcalfe, Fannie Spence, and James Spears for a price of $2,762. Alexander died on June 28, 1893, and was buried within this stone wall. Emma died June 4, 1911, and was buried at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo. Though Fairmount Cemetery records do not show a burial for Alexander Herring, his headstone, which once stood here, is presently located at Fairmount Cemetery in Block 38 Lot 5, next to Emma’s. All that remains here is the footstone marked AFH.
So, was Alexander’s body moved to Fairmount Cemetery, or is he still here? We do not know.
